As ever, we cross our fingers in the hope that our players – and especially our key players – emerge from the pointlessness of international friendly week unscathed.

If I’d asked you before the break which players are absolutely crucial to Arsenal’s resurgence and form, you’d have given me a shortlist with 3 or 4 names on it. One of those names would have been Robin van Persie.

So it would be a really bitter blow if it were true he’s torn his angle ligaments playing a ‘friendly’.

The situation is confused a bit by the fact it’s not being reported across the board. There’s nothing on BBC Sport yet and the official Arsenal website has nothing on it. But the Guardian and the Times are running with it.

Whatever, it’s overshadowed the outstanding display of our very own Aaron Ramsey.

Here’s hoping it’s not as bad as first feared.
