Broken, Crocked, Tweaked, Operated etc

Good morning to you all on this injury-blighted Saturday. As if having Henry out injured was not damaging enough, none of Cole, Campbell, Hleb van Persie and Gilberto are available today thanks to the (third) international week of the season.

So let me get this right: The club pays the players wages and, as an additional bonus, their assets come back broken. No wonder these breaks are viewed with trepidation by the managers.

In the cases of Cole and Hleb it’s two months out. The former has been one of our better performers this season, and the latter has impressed with every game that’s gone by. So it’s a big blow.

With all the others, the prognosis is not so bad – Campbell (hamstring) will not be out for as long as first feared, while Gilberto (jetlag) and van Persie (thigh) should be back for Tuesday’s trip to Prague. Henry is not be that far away from returning – though no date has been set there.

First away win of the season? We certainly need it.
