Don’t you just love it when that happens?
A win at the lane, top of the league, two mesmerising goals and a bullish team performance. Wonderful stuff.
The game swung this way and that, but Arsenal kept plugging away with some incisive football, and despite the odd gilt-edged chance missed by our brittle hosts, we got better and better and well deserved the win. Going top is the icing on the cake – I can’t remember the last time we were top but I’d hazard a guess at it being around this time in 2004. Seems like a long while at any rate.
The staggeringly good Fabregas was, again, the main man and with the addition of goals to his creative play he has become absolutely critical to us. If you haven’t already stuck him in your fantasy team then get on the case.
Adebayor was fabulous too – missed a few, for sure, one of which was a dead cert following Sagna’s pull-back, but he despatched two and you can’t ask for more. His second goal was so technically adept it has to be a contender for goal of the season.
Hleb continued his good form and Toure was as solid as ever, saving us from a certain goal with a timely tackle. There are a few question marks over Almunia, but today’s not the day for that.
Instead we can sit back and savour a great weekend’s work. Just what we needed too, with Seville coming up in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Oh, and to finish: The Daily Mail is claiming the club will announce turnover of £180m, up 50% on pre-Grove days and second in the world to Real Madrid.
With the prices they charge for seats, bottled water and tepid hotdogs in dry buns, I’m not surprised.
