Our Changing Back Line

So the buzz from Saturday is fading and the buzz for Wednesday has not quite begun. All us web-dwellers are waiting on tenterhooks for snippets of info on Fabregas and Eboue, two players whose importance has leapt, and whose average age is 20. Amazing really, isn’t it?

There’s been a lot of flux this season, but the biggest changes seem to have been made in defence. Our first-choice back four is changing, and fast. At the tail end of last season, Senderos was beginning to make a name for himself, but the first choice back line was probably still Lauren-Campbell-Toure-Cole.

Now it’s Eboue-Toure-Senderos-Flamini, a huge turnaround, and the incredible thing is that we’re even talking of keeping it as it is. Will Lauren oust Eboue next season? I doubt it. Campbell replace Senderos? Unlikely at present. And as for Cole, well I think it’s taken as read that if Cole is fit he’ll replace Flamini, but for how long? The general consensus is that Cole is off in the summer, so after that, Flamini must surely stand a chance.

It’s an incredible transition, isn’t it?
