Another Fine January Rumour

“I have one big wish and that is to play for my dream team Arsenal,” said Ghaly.

No, we’re not talking about former Secretary General of the UN, Boutros-Boutros, but Feyenoord’s Egyptian midfielder Hossam.

He’s fallen out with his boss Ronald Koeman, and is a pal with fellow bad-boy Robin van Persie, which I presume is why he’s come out with this random quote. However, I get the feeling he’s going to have to try a bit harder than that. Simply saying the word ‘Arsenal’ is not going to guarantee you a transfer (imagine if it was that easy – I’d not be sitting here writing this now if it were. I’d be at Colney brushing up on my passing, which I admit, is poor. But I digress).

Prising open Wenger’s chequebook is a notoriously hard business, so we shall see.

And as Sky Sports itself – from where the story comes – says, “Arsene Wenger has been happy to fill the void with the players he has at his disposal but could be tempted to gamble on Ghaly to add further depth to his squad”.

He could. But then again, he could not.

Arsenal since about 1979. Thick, thin and all that.
