Goalscoring: who will step up to the plate?

Boring I know, but let’s talk maths.

The hard facts state we are now a goalscorer down, and that puts an awful lot of pressure on Adebayor, who has scored 25% of our goals this season.

Looking pragmatically at things now that the dust has settled, Eduardo was our joint-second top scorer having scored 12 of our 88 goals this term – which if my pitiful maths can be relied on, equates to 13.6% of the total.

The obvious answer to the problem begins in Robin and ends in van Persie. Our mysteriously fragile Dutch forward will bag goals if fit, but that’s a king-sized if. He’s not played more than fleetingly since October.

So I think we can all hope that he’s not far off from contributing on that front – just round the corner would be nice, (but mind that dodgy thigh as you go).

Who else? Well, for all of Hleb’s brilliance, he has not scored since November 12th, Fabregas’s goals have dried up somewhat too and Bendtner remains a bit peripheral (five goals – though if Adebayor would deign to pass to him…)

And fresh from a two-goal salvo at Brum, Walcott feels confident – and there’s no doubt more from him would be nice.

Those goals under his belt, I fancy him to start on Saturday.
