Ooh to be a Sagna?

And thing I forgot to mention yesterday, and I should have, was that there’s loads to be excited about. That’s why this negative press is so frustrating.

It looks very much like Bakari Sagna is coming in for around £7.5m, and he’s either a right-back or a centre-back depending on what you read. He’s meant to be a hot property and is tipped to take over from Willy Sagnol for France. Sagna taking the place of Sagnol – it’s a Sagn conspiracy.

There are also strong rumours that Martins is still a target too, and that’s an interesting one. Interesting mainly because if we sign him – or another experienced striker – we would have six strikers (including Walcott). Even discounting Bendtner, who won’t want to be discounted, and Walcott, who might play more on the wing, that would be four strikers who would reasonably expect to be first choice. We shall see.

We might also see Ljungberg move on, to Fiorentina. He’s long repeated that he wants to stay, but football doesn’t always respect players wishes, and with just a handful of goals in the last two seasons, and too many hours in the physio’s room, it’s not a surprising rumour. This evening his agent confirmed it’s not all hot air. “The two clubs are in discussions,” he said. “If they come to an agreement, Fredrik can think about looking at a move.”

A loss of experience if he goes, yes, but also a great sentimental loss for those who have followed his career since that first, delicate lob against Man U in 1998. A brilliant player in his prime. In fact a brilliant player full stop, with an incredible motor and a nice line in pants.

What about more support on the wings to give Hleb and Rosicky a kick up chops? If Freddie leaves, who have we got bar those two and Walcott? Does Wenger have a positional move up his sleeve? Eboue to right midfield perhaps?

Frustrated one day and excited the next – that’s me. I put it down to a chemical imbalance of the brain.
